Adoption

It is so wonderful to be able to expand your family! For many people, adoption has been a consideration for many years. It is well thought out. You know what your heart says, but you are unsure of exactly how to adopt a child. Miriam Arnold-Johnson, PC is here to help. There are many different ways to reach your goal and there are so many children in need.

There are several different kinds of adoptions.

We can help you understand the process and what will be necessary from you.

  • Relative Adoptions
  • After the entry of a final judgement and decree for divorce, final order for custody, or a final order for child support, what do you do if something changes? You have options. A final judgment for either child support or child custody maybe modified under certain circumstances.
    Can't I just go get a guardianship?
A guardianship is not the same as adopting a child.
  • Step-Parent Adoptions
  • The old saying, "it is the love, not the blood" is correct. Step-parents often want to adopt a child, but how? The step parent adopting needs to know the benefits and the responsibilities of adopting a child. You need to consider representation when you are expanding your family, and MAJPC can help.
My wife's will states she wants me to raise my stepson is that enough?
A will does not grant rights in the same manner as an adoption.
  • Domestic Independent Adoptions
  • If you are a person who wants to adopt a child here in the United States but a relative or step-parent adoption is not an option, then a domestic independent adoption may provide your answer. A person or couple may wish to adopt a child but not through an adoption agency. Attorney Arnold-Johnson has experience in this area. Give her a call.
A young lady at church asked my husband and I to care for her child? That is fine right?
Simply caring for a child does not create a legally binding relationship, as an adoption would.
